hi everyone, i have emailed dianne about a recent problem and am waiting her reply, read on and see if you can help us with our scared ferret: adrian and i are very worried about her at the moment, she seems to be very scared of us for some reason (we think it may have been a very loud noise or something that scared her while we were at work) everything else is normal she's not lethargic or anything, she even had a nibble at my ankles this morning !! she just seems to be really scared of us, more so when we move toward her or make a noise of any kind, she bolts away from us (hiding under the bed or couch) and when we are eventually able to pick her up she'll be still for a little while but then she'll really struggle to get down. another thing is when she is in her cage she will just lie on her blanket (she usually chills out in her hammock or her bed) and she will usually want to be let out of her cage when we get home from work, but she has just been watching us when we come home, i thought this may have been shock of some kind, my dad thinks it could be a tick (but i said that wouldnt explain the aversion to us though) this all started yesterday evening adrian had come to pick me up at the train station, and before he left he said he let her out of her cage for a pat and she seemed fine, and when we came back she was always bolting away from us and mostly either hiding under the bed or the lounge (it wasnt more than 20 minutes between when adrian left to pick me up to when we got home) so i have no idea whats happened.... hopefully you can (or anyone else) can shed some light on the situation because i'm really worried about Teeka, and i miss her happy little, playing dooking self :(( if anyone can help, or knows hat might be wrong please please let us know, hopefully she'll be back to normal soon thanks Leanne, Adrian & Teeka (our ferret) |

Sounds almost identical to the behaviour my little girl Coco went through a while back. Same thing, acting very scared and skittish like she had had a big fright or shock of some kind. I rushed Coco off to the vet where they did a brain scan and all sorts of tests but everything came back negative, it cost me a pretty packet and they didn’t find anything abnormal. I just slowly gained Coco’s confidence back by approaching her really gently, talking to her softly and giving lots & lots of cuddles - within a few weeks she was totally back to her old self like nothing had happened. Toni went through a similar phaze when we bought her home for the first time. We put it down to the sound of my scooter. Whenever she heard it she dived for cover and wouldn't come back out for at least an hour. It's possible you have some similar sound that she can't see that terrifies her. It's a possibily. |
