These are the results from the Diet Survey from Issue 128 of Ferreting Around. The following stats are purely based on the members and ferrets who participated, and are NOT an indication of exactly what every member of WAFFS feeds, nor what every ferret eats. Statistics based on the number of Ferrets who participated. 90% of the ferrets involved in the survey are fed raw meat. Of these ferrets, most have a variety of meats included. * 78% will eat beef * 23% will eat mutton * 34% will eat rabbit * 11.8% will eat fish * 16.3% will eat lamb * 65.7% will eat kangaroo * 3.5% have assorted types of liver included * 38% have other assorted meat products included. 14% are fed cooked meat 96.7% are fed biscuits Many of these ferrets have a variety of biscuit types included in the mix they eat. * 44.8% include IAMS * 41.4% include Eukanuba * 42.1% include Eagle Ferret * 38.6% include Advance * 47.6% include Royal Canin * 39.35% include Science * 6.9% include whiskas * 6.9% include Friskies * 42.8% include Dine * 0.7% include Optimum * 34.5% include Purina * 29.6% include pro plan * 50.4% include various un-named biscuit types. 65.4% of ferrets will eat prey while a further 6% have tried prey but refuse to eat it. * Of those ferrets getting prey: * 49% are getting day old chicks while a further 8.2% have tried and refuse them * 97% of ferrets who eat prey will eat weiner mice * 28.6% eat pinkie mice * 19.4% eat adult mice 44% are eating chicken meat While a further 2% have tried and refused 18% are eating chicken wings while a further 34% have tried and refused them 30.7% are eating chicken necks while a further 32.7% have tried them and refuse them 12.7% are given raw bones occassionally 97.4% of ferrets drink lactose free milk Of these subjects, 72.1% are getting egg yolks mixed in with their milk 78.7% of ferrets are getting Nutripet Other things ferrets enjoy include: * 10% eat watermelon * 34.7% eat other fruits * 4% are getting whole eggs * 6.7% are getting tinned cat food Statistics based on the Number Of Member Households who participated. 92.5% of the members include raw meat in their ferrets' diets. * 64% include beef * 12% include mutton * 16% include rabbit * 16% include fish * 12% include lamb * 36% include kangaroo meat * 24% include assorted meat products 22.2% include cooked meat 92.5% are including biscuits In these households, a mixture of biscuit types are usually included in the mix. * 24% of households include IAMS * 20% include Eukanuba * 20% include Eagle Ferret * 20% include Advance * 16% include Royal Canin * 24% include Science * 12% include whiskas * 8% include Friskies * 12% include Dine * 4% include Optimum * 16% include Purina * 8% include Pro Plan * 40% include various un-named biscuits. 48.2% are including prey in the diet of their ferrets while a further 7.5% have tried prey, but have ferrets who won't eat it. * Of those including prey: * 38.5% are getting day old chicks while a further 15.4% have tried and ferrets refuse * 92.5% are including weiner mice * 23% are including pinkie mice * 7.5% are giving adult mice 48.2% are including chicken meat in their dietary plans While a further 7.5% have tried to feed them to their ferrets, but the ferrets refuse to eat them. 14.9% are including chicken wings while a further 29.6% have tried to include them but been refused. 29.6% are including chicken necks while a further 26.1% have given themto their ferrets, but the ferrets refuse to eat them. 18.5% are giving raw bones occassionally *while a further 3.7% have tried them, but the ferrets refuse. 92.5% of households surveyed are giving milk and of these 56% are also adding egg yolks to the milk. 62.9% of ferrets are getting Nutripet Other things being fed to ferrets include: * 14.8% include tinned cat foods * 11.1% are giving their ferrets full eggs * 37.1% are giving their ferrets fruit |
